Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) have reintroduced the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act in the 119th Congress, aiming to ensure AM radio remains a standard feature in new vehicles at no extra cost. The bill, which previously gained strong bipartisan support but never reached a vote, is making a comeback with over 40 senators already on board.

The legislation would require the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to mandate AM radio in all new cars, emphasizing its role in public safety—especially during emergencies like the LA wildfires. Both senators highlighted AM radio’s reliability in disasters and its importance for free speech and diverse programming.

NAB President Curtis LeGeyt praised the effort, urging Congress to act swiftly to preserve AM radio’s vital role in keeping Americans informed and safe.
