Holy Monday: Jesus Cleanses the Temple

holy-monday-blog-tile

On the Monday after Palm Sunday, Jesus entered the temple in Jerusalem and drove out the money changers and merchants, declaring, “’My house will be called a house of prayer’, but you are making it ‘a den of robbers’” (Matthew 21:12-13).

This act was more than a display of righteous anger, it was a powerful reminder that true worship cannot coexist with corruption. Jesus was cleansing His Father’s house, preparing hearts for the greater cleansing He would accomplish through the cross.

We remember this day as a call to examine our own hearts. Jesus is not only our Savior, but also our sanctifier. He calls us to worship God in spirit and in truth, and to remove anything that distracts us from wholehearted devotion to Him.
