Maundy Thursday: The Last Supper and the Garden

maundy-thursday-blog-tile

On Thursday, Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples, known as the Last Supper. It was during this sacred moment that He instituted the Lord’s Supper, breaking bread and sharing the cup as symbols of His soon-to-be broken body and shed blood (Luke 22:19-20).

Jesus also humbled Himself by washing His disciples’ feet, teaching them that true greatness is found in serving others (John 13).

Later that evening, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane with deep anguish. He cried out to the Father, yet submitted fully to His will: “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

Maundy Thursday is a powerful reminder of Jesus’ love, humility, and obedience. He gave us a way to remember His sacrifice—and He showed us the depth of His surrender, even in the face of sorrow.
